M. P. Council of Science and
Technology (MAPCOST) was registered under the Madhya Pradesh
Registration of Societies Act, 1973 in October 1981, to fulfill the
following objectives based on the recommendations of the workshop of S &
T Council's held in Bangalore in 1981 as per the Govt. of India Science
Policy Resolution 1958. |

1. To identify area in which
science and technology can be utilized for achieving the

objectives of tackling the problems of backwardness, unemployment
and povery in the rural areas and among the under-privileged
sections of society, such as Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes,

2. To advise Government on
policies and measures necessary to promote utilization of Science &
Technology for the achievement of the said socio-economic
objectives. |

3. To initiate, support, promote
and co-ordinate such research and development projects and
programmes (including demonstration projects) as are likely to be
relevant for the achievement of specific objectives and problems and
help in the fruitful exploitation of the natural resources of the
State through various institutions and organisations in the State. |

4. To establish, or assist in the
establishment of infrastructure (institution, organisations etc)
necessary to science and technology to further the development
efforts of the State. |

5. To set up and administer
documentation centres and or laboratories. |
|
 |
6. To prepare or assist in the
preparation of Science and Technology plans and formulate research
and development programmes, approve such programmes if received from
other institutions and finance and/or aid such projects by means of
grants, loans, supply of materials, provision of experts etc. |

7. To promote the popularization of science and the spread of a
scientific temper and attitude amongst the people of the State and
to disseminate scientific knowledge by means of pamphlets, journals,
films etc. and to organise seminars and conferences to promote
Science and Technology. |

8. To supplement the activities of the State Government in the field
of Science and Technology. |
|
 |
9. To interact with other State Councils and national Science and
Technologies bodies with similar or related objectives. |
|
 |
10. To take any other steps which are relevant to the application of
Science & Technology to the problems of the State and to promote
education in Science and Technology. |

11. To institute prizes and award for meritorious research and
developmental work in Science and Technology, and
|
|
 |
12. Generally to take all such measures with the approval of the
Council as are likely to accelerate the process of modernization in
Madhya Pradesh through the use of Science & Technology. |

Council is now recognized as a nodal
agency to cater to the needs of Science & Technological requirements of
the State. Council has developed itself in many disciplines recently.
Different divisions are handling the paradigm of Science & Technology. |

These divisions are Remote Sensing
Application Centre, Biotechnology Application Centre, Patent Information
Centre, Plant Resource Centre, Central Laboratory Facility,
Library-cum-Documentation Centre, Societal programmes, Science
popularisation and Centre for Information on Science, Technology and
Industry. Council has highly specialized and dedicated team of young
scientists in various disciplines of Science & Technology. M. P. Council
of Science and Technology organises training programmes for students of
School/College/University, Research Scholars, teachers, NGOs, Govt./Semi
Government organisatins, farmers, etc in various fields of Science &
Technology through its various divisions. |

1.COUNCIL'S TRAINING ACTIVITIES |
| 1.1
Remote Sensing Applications Centre |
- Orgnaises training course on Remote Sensing and GIS
Applications in the field of
- natural resources management including soil and
agriculture,
- forest and environment,
- water resources,
- land use and urban survey,
- integrated survey and earth resources,
- image processing,
- application fields.
- Training duration : 1 day to 3 weeks
- Who can participate: Students/Teachers of
School/College/ University Research Scholars, field/Middle/Senior
level private/Semi govt./Govt, officers/employees in related fields,
NGOs etc.
- Training fee: Regular training courses are
paid ones and sponsored training courses are unpaid.
- Apart from regular training programmes, training
courses may also be organised as per demand.

Biotechnology Application Centre |
Organises Training
programmes in the following field.
- Tissue Culture Techniques.
- Agroctechnology of medicinal and aromatic plants
- Biofertiliser
- Vermiculture
- Biopesticides
- Spirulina Culture
- Mushroom cultivation technology
- Who can participate: Students/teachers of
Colleges/Universities, research scholars, entrepreneurs, NGOs and
farmers.
- Training fee: Regular training courses are
paid ones and sponsored training courses are unpaid.
- Training may also be organised on demand additional
to its regular training programme

Medicinal and Aromatic Plant Development Centre: |

Organises training programme on
conservation of medicinal and aromatic plants at its Centre located in
Obaidullaganj, in Raisen district.

Who can participate:
Students/Teachers of College and Universities (Science group),
research scholars, farmers and NGOs.

Course Duration: 1 to 3 days,
total 8 training programmes are conducted in a year.

Training Fee: Free of
charges.

Apart from regular training
programmes, training may also be organised on demand of farmers/orgnaisations
at their desired place.

Central Laboratory Facility (CLF) |

CLF orgnaises training courses on
Instrumentation with the aim to cultivate the instrumentation culture
in the scientific community in the state for college/university
students, technical assistants, scientists and other employees of R &
D institutions/employees of educational institutions.

Students/teachers of college/universities, research scholars,
technical assistants, scientists and other employees of R & D
institutions.

Training duration: 3 days
every month (October and December), 5 days every month (September,
November, January and February).

Western India Science Fare |
- Time and Duration: State level organisation in the
month of November.

- Selection at State Level: 5 team projects, 5
individual projects and 3 teaching aids.
- National level organisation: In the month of
December, at Nehru Science Centre, Mumbai.

Maths Olympiad |
- State level competition organised by State
Institute of Science Education, Jabalpur, Madhya Pradesh in the month
of December every year. Council sponsors prizes for 30 best students.

Young Scientist Congress |
- Council organises this programme every year with
the help of Universities of State in the month of February/March
.College/ University students may participate.
- Council also supports awardees of Young Scientist
Congress for pursuance of his/her research work.

Teachers Training Programme |
- Council also supports teachers training programme
for preparation of science kits with collaboration of Science Centre,
Bhopal .

Special programmes |
- Council also organises specific training programmes
with support of National Council for Science &Technology Communication
, Department of Science & Technology , New Dethi in the following
areas:--
Aeromodelling, Model Rocketry, Food adulteration, Water testing
& Telescope making

Patent Information Center (PIC) |
- PIC of Council gives information on patent, copy
right, trade mark industrial design, geographical indications, lay out
design of integrated circuit and trade secret to Researcher/ inventor
in industry/R&D organizations /university through consultancy as well
as training cum awareness workshops.
